Announcing Our New Executive Director: Emily Kahn

July 21, 2023

The New York Preservation Archive Project is pleased to announce that Emily Kahn will join as Executive Director beginning July 24, 2023.

“Emily brings a wealth of experience and passions for preservation, history, and archives,” noted Anthony C. Wood, Chair Emeritus and Founder. Ms. Kahn has most recently been serving as Associate Manager for the National Fund for Sacred Places at the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She currently is President of Columbia’s Preservation Alumni and has been an active researcher in the preservation field. Her recent consulting work has included engagements with Friends of the Upper East Side and NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project.

“We are eager for Emily’s arrival at NYPAP,” said Lisa Ackerman, NYPAP Chair. “It was immediately evident that Emily possessed all the qualities the Board was seeking in the next Executive Director.”

NYPAP’s vision for telling the fullest narrative of NYC’s preservation movement remains as relevant today as when the organization was founded. Our goal is to assure that archives are maintained and made available to the public. Through oral histories, web resources, public programs, and archival assistance grants, NYPAP has over the last 20 years heightened awareness of the archival resources that can be found across all five boroughs.

Join us in welcoming Emily Kahn, who will build upon the success of Brad Vogel, Matthew Coody, Liz McEnaney, Rudie Hurwitz, Sarah Sher and others who have demonstrated the value of the organization’s work during their time at the helm of NYPAP and continue to serve the field in new roles in important ways.
