Jack Taylor was a fervent preservationist. From pushing to preserve the Ladies’ Mile Historic District to fighting to save cultural sites like Luchow’s and the Dvořák House, he threw himself into his work with gusto.

But how will the future know? Join archivist Barbara Gombach as she shares insights from her work to pre-process Taylor’s voluminous preservation papers for provision to The New-York Historical Society for long-term safekeeping and public access. Taylor was, in some ways, the model preservationist when it came to saving preservation history. He provided funds to the Archive Project in his will to facilitate the saving of his papers, and the Archive Project staff swung into action in 2019 upon his passing to work with Taylor’s family to save the papers in Taylor’s apartment.

Join us to find out what went into the effort to rescue, process, and organize Jack Taylor’s legacy – and learn what we learned about him and his preservation advocacy along the way.
